Hunting this ground with Huntica

Magersfontein sits between Kimberley and Jacobsdal on a historic farm of roughly 7,000 hectares, with additional concessions in the surrounding area. The terrain is classic Northern Cape: open bushveld, rock outcrops, and well-placed roads that make spot-and-stalk hunts highly effective.

For many hunters, this feels like a “target rich” environment — high game density without the sense of overhunting, thanks to careful management and limited hunter numbers each year. It’s ideal both for first-time African hunters and for return guests looking to add species like sable, roan, or buffalo in a comfortable, accessible setting.

Species and seasons

On the main property and associated areas you can expect:

  • Multiple plains game species (including various Springbok, Gemsbok, etc.).
  • Sable and Roan, which are actively bred and well-represented.
  • Buffalo, plus special colour variants such as golden gemsbok, black impala, and more.

Core safari season runs roughly March to October, with flexibility depending on species and client schedule. The climate is typically dry with clear visibility, and hunts can be structured for rifle or bow, with elevated blinds over water for bowhunters.

How we host you here

At Magersfontein, Huntica hosts you on a working safari farm where the lodge and hunting area are integrated — you step out of the lodge and onto the hunt, without wasting hours each day in a vehicle.

Your Huntica host is present alongside the local PH team, coordinating which areas and species to prioritize for your group, making daily adjustments based on conditions, and ensuring both hunters and non-hunters have a great experience at the lodge. For Brotherhood-style trips, we balance time in the field with time around the fire and on the veranda, where the real relationship-building happens.

Why this is Huntica Approved Ground

Magersfontein has been operated as a hunting farm since the 1960s and has built a reputation among repeat African hunters for:

  • Hunting out the back door of the lodge.
  • On-site skinning shed, cooler, and proper salting facilities, staffed by people who can handle trophies at any hour.
  • Very high trophy quality and a “not overhunted” feel, with the operator catering to a controlled number of hunters per year.

Before including it in the Huntica portfolio, our founders hunted this property, evaluated game management and ethics, and confirmed that the farm’s operational standards align with the Huntica Code and Promise.
